The life of a Savannah is full of adventure, curiosity, and loyalty. These factors and personality traits, paired with the beauty of the animal are what makes these exotic cats a coveted companion. We are lovers of the loyal Savannah.
The Savannah cat is one of the largest of the domesticated cat breeds as it is a cross between a domestic cat and a an African Serval cat. In the late 1980s a male Serval was crossbred with a domestic cat to produce the first Savannah cat. This unusual cross became very popular in the 1990s and soon after was accepted as a new registered breed by The International Cat Association (TICA). In recent years, these sophisticated and exotic cats have been in demand for their physical beauty and health and their loving but strong personalities.
The overall impression of the Savannah is a tall, lean, graceful cat with striking dark spots and other bold markings on a background color of any shade of brown, silver, black or black smoke. The Savannah cat should closely resemble the African Serval but with a smaller statue, with a long neck, tall ears and a medium length tail. Savannahs are commonly known to be exceptionally graceful and intelligent cats with well balanced and lean bodies with bold striking colors and patterns.

Savannah Care GuideThe African Serval is the basis for all Savannah cats and can become a very affectionate pet in it of itself. They can also be the ultimate experience for avid cat lovers. But these cats take a different mind set than keeping a domestic pet cat, and have special care requirements.
Serval kittens will eventually someday accept you as their owner, and you will be a member of their pride. However, when you accept the responsibility of caring for any animal like a Serval, you must realize that the animal depends on you not just for food, shelter and medical care but also for companionship and love.
Each Serval will have their individual personalities and quirks, so each is different. A Serval may bond with you and never bond with another person for the rest of its life. This will likely make it very hard for the Serval if you decide that you cannot care for it anymore. Bear this in mind and realize that life with a Serval will provide you a very special and truly unique relationship but will be a 20 year commitment and they will depend on you for their needs.
When a Serval is treated with love and respect it will bond with its caretaker like no other animal you have ever seen. They will welcome you into their pride and treat you as their pet. They will treat you like no other cat does and you will have years of enjoyment and love. They chirp when they need your attention and what a joy it is when your African Serval decides it is time to head butt you into their family!
